Publication Ethics

Al-Azhar Journal of Islamic Economics (AJIE) is committed to maintaining high standards of academic integrity and responsible scholarly publishing.

The journal expects authors, reviewers, editors, and other parties involved in the publication process to uphold ethical standards in research and scholarly communication.

AJIE's publication-ethics framework is informed by internationally recognized principles of responsible scholarly publishing, including the Core Practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Editorial Responsibilities

Editors are responsible for:

  1. evaluating manuscripts based on academic merit;
  2. maintaining confidentiality during the editorial process;
  3. ensuring fair and objective editorial treatment;
  4. selecting appropriate reviewers;
  5. managing conflicts of interest;
  6. investigating allegations of publication misconduct;
  7. protecting the integrity of the published scholarly record; and
  8. issuing corrections or other appropriate notices when necessary.

Editorial decisions should not be influenced by the author's gender, religion, nationality, ethnicity, institutional affiliation, political views, or personal characteristics.

Authors' Responsibilities

Authors must:

  1. submit original work;
  2. ensure that the manuscript is not simultaneously under consideration elsewhere;
  3. accurately present research methods, findings, analysis, and conclusions;
  4. appropriately cite sources;
  5. ensure that all listed authors have made legitimate contributions;
  6. obtain approval from all co-authors;
  7. disclose relevant conflicts of interest;
  8. disclose relevant funding or institutional support;
  9. comply with applicable research-ethics requirements; and
  10. notify the editor of significant errors discovered after submission or publication.

Authorship and Contributorship

Authorship should reflect substantial scholarly contribution to the conception, design, execution, analysis, interpretation, or substantive development of the research or manuscript.

The corresponding author is responsible for confirming that all authors:

  • have made appropriate contributions;
  • have approved the final manuscript;
  • agree with submission to AJIE; and
  • accept responsibility for their respective contributions.

Authorship disputes should be addressed transparently and, where necessary, with involvement from the relevant institution.

Reviewers' Responsibilities

Reviewers should:

  1. provide objective and constructive assessments;
  2. maintain manuscript confidentiality;
  3. identify relevant sources that have not been cited;
  4. report suspected plagiarism or other misconduct;
  5. disclose conflicts of interest;
  6. decline reviews outside their expertise; and
  7. avoid using unpublished information obtained through peer review for personal advantage.

Conflicts of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose relationships or circumstances that could influence or reasonably appear to influence their judgment.

Potential conflicts may include:

  • financial interests;
  • institutional relationships;
  • personal relationships;
  • professional competition;
  • research collaboration;
  • supervisory relationships; and
  • other relevant interests.

Editors and reviewers should withdraw from decisions where a significant conflict exists.

Research Ethics

Research involving human participants, personal information, interviews, or other ethically sensitive material must comply with applicable ethical requirements.

Where appropriate, authors should provide information concerning ethical approval and informed consent.

Authors must protect confidential and personally identifiable information.

Complaints and Appeals

AJIE provides mechanisms for legitimate complaints and appeals relating to:

  • editorial decisions;
  • peer review;
  • publication ethics;
  • authorship;
  • conflicts of interest; and
  • journal administration.

Complaints should be directed to the journal's official editorial contact.

The journal will assess complaints objectively and investigate matters according to their nature and seriousness.

Post-Publication Corrections

AJIE recognizes the published article as part of the permanent scholarly record.

When necessary, the journal may publish:

  • corrections;
  • expressions of concern;
  • retractions; or
  • other appropriate editorial notices.

COPE identifies post-publication correction, revision, and retraction mechanisms as an essential component of responsible journal publishing.
